The short version

Talkspring records you speaking, scores the recording, and tracks your progress. Three promises shape everything below:

  1. Your audio is never stored - anywhere, including on your phone. The clip you just recorded is held in memory only while you review that one recording; leaving the screen discards it. There is no audio file to delete, on your device or on any server.
  2. Your words never leave your phone. The transcript and the marked words derived from it are stored only on your device. Our servers have no transcript columns at all - the words cannot be stored there, by design.
  3. Your scores do sync. Numbers - scores, streaks, XP, lesson records - are stored in your account so they survive a new phone. That's the entire sync.

What we collect

Account identity. When you create an account we store the identity your sign-in provider gives us (Sign in with Apple, Google, or email). We use it to sign you in and attach your synced data to you.

Scores and progress. Each recording produces a composite score, five component scores (filler, pace, pause, hedging, repetition), a vocabulary score, and a timestamp. These sync to your account, along with streak days, XP, and lesson and skill completion records. We use them to show you your own history and progress.

Transcripts and marked words - device only. Transcription happens on your phone (no cloud speech service is involved). The transcript, word timings, and marked spans stay on your phone. They are wiped when you sign out or delete the app, and they do not transfer to a new phone - your scores come back, the word-level evidence behind them does not.

Onboarding answers - device only. Your goal, context, self-rating, free-text motivation, and chosen practice time are stored on your phone and are not sent to us or to our analytics.

Usage analytics. See "Analytics" below.

Subscription state. See "Payments" below.

We collect nothing else. No ads, no ad tracking, no contact list, no location.

Analytics

We use PostHog, hosted in the EU, to understand how the app is used. Analytics starts when you first open the app, under a random anonymous ID; if you create an account, that ID is linked to your account so we can see how sign-up went.

What's sent: which screens you view, and events like "recording completed" (duration), "analysis completed" (time taken, composite score, word count), "trial started" (plan), "account created" (sign-in provider). Your composite score and word count are included in these events. Your transcript, your recordings, your onboarding answers, and your free-text writing are never sent.

We don't sell data or use it for advertising.

Our lawful basis is legitimate interests: pseudonymous product analytics to improve the app. You can object at any time by emailing support@talkspring.app, and we will delete your analytics history (see "Deleting your data").

Our website. talkspring.app runs the same PostHog analytics in cookieless mode: we count page views and clicks, but nothing is stored on your device - no cookies, no identifiers - so visits are not linked to you, to your app account, or to each other. That is also why the website shows no cookie banner: there is nothing to consent to.

Payments

Subscriptions are billed by Apple through your Apple ID. We use RevenueCat to validate purchases and manage subscription status; RevenueCat and Apple process your purchase data under their own policies. Subscription events (trial started, converted, cancelled) also reach our analytics via RevenueCat. We never see your card details.

Share links

If you share your Speech Profile or a Head-to-Head challenge, the app publishes a card at a link like talkspring.app/p/…. Anyone with the link can view it. The card contains: your composite score, the five component scores, one callout line and one supporting metric, the date, and internal account IDs. It contains no name, no topic, no transcript, and no audio - the table it lives in has no columns for your words, so they cannot appear there by accident.

Sharing is always your explicit act - nothing is published unless you send it. A sent share link cannot be individually unpublished. Deleting your account removes every card you ever shared, and a deleted card is indistinguishable from one that never existed.

Who receives your data

Service What they process Why
Supabase Account identity, scores and progress, share cards Our database and sign-in
PostHog (EU) Usage events, incl. composite score and word count Product analytics
RevenueCat Purchase receipts, subscription status Subscription management
Apple Sign in with Apple; App Store billing Sign-in and payments

We require that any third party processing your data protects it to the same standard as this policy. We share data with no one else, and we never sell it.

How long we keep it

Deleting your data

Settings → Delete account, inside the app. It is permanent, it cannot be undone, and it does not cancel your subscription - cancel through Apple first (the app takes you there).

Deleting your account immediately erases everything in our database: your identity, scores, streaks, XP, lesson records, and every share card. Your sent share links stop working - that's the visible proof it happened.

Analytics data at PostHog and your customer record at RevenueCat are not covered by the in-app cascade. Email support@talkspring.app and we will erase those too.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you can ask us for access to your data, correction, erasure, restriction, portability, or to object to processing based on legitimate interests. Email support@talkspring.app; we'll respond within one month. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

Children

Talkspring is for users aged 13 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.

Changes

If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the effective date above. Material changes will be flagged in the app.
